CompassLearning, NWEA Expand Personalized Learning System To K-2

Personalized learning pathways will be available for students in grades K-2 with the expansion of a partnership between CompassLearning and the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA).

Web-based instruction from CompassLearning will link with data from NWEA's Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment as part of the partnership. Previously, such personalized learning was only available to students in grades 3-8.

The expanded partnership will offer schools a chance to develop personalized learning opportunities for students. Instruction is geared toward where students fall within the RIT range, a rounded range of scores that seeks to clarify where a student would place two-thirds of the time on a given test under similar conditions, according to information provided by CompassLearning.

The alliance offers educators and students a three-step solution that includes:

  • Importation of student test data from MAP into CompassLearning;
  • Automatic assignment of learning pathways based on the RIT range; and
  • Activities linked to learning needs identified by MAP.

"We are very excited to offer the alignment between MAP for Primary Grades and CompassLearning Odyssey," said Matt Chapman, NWEA president and CEO. "Now our youngest students can get the powerful learning bonus that comes when MAP data is combined with compelling curriculum."

"With the alignment between MAP for Primary Grades and CompassLearning educators can create personalized learning paths for students that not only ensure they are experiencing academic success, but support their personal growth," said Ann Henson, vice president of curriculum and instruction for Compasslearning. "Working with NWEA, we are able to provide teachers with information and resources that help them more efficiently and effectively understand each student and provide them with the resources to reach and engage them in realizing their full potential."
