Wanderful has launched a set of interactive storybook apps for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch based on the Living Books series produced by Brøderbund Software in the 1990s.

The apps feature custom music, extended animation and hundreds of interactive "hot spots." Each app also includes the "Read to Me" mode from the original series that lets young readers watch and listen to the story play automatically.

Readers can also switch languages within the story itself. Currently, readers can select from English, Spanish and French. According to the company, future versions of the products will be available in Japanese, German, Italian, U.K. English and Brazilian Portuguese.

"These rich experiences enable today’s students to read, play and learn together," said Mickey W. Mantle, president and CEO of Wanderful.

Four titles--Mercer Mayer’s "Little Monster at School," Marc Brown’s "Arthur’s Teacher Trouble,” Aesop’s "The Tortoise and the Hare,” and "Harry and the Haunted House"--have been released so far.
