Devolutions Updates Password Vault Manager

Devolutions has released Password Vault Manager (PVM) 4.2, the latest version of its enterprise password management tool.

Password Vault Manager is designed to help organizations centralize all of their passwords and credentials in one secure repository. According to the company, it can help strengthen network security by generating strong and unique passwords and can reduce help desk calls related to forgotten passwords.

The application uses an advanced encryption standard (AES) algorithm to protect local files and data. The software generates a 256-bit encryption key from a combination of PVM's own private key and a master password or passphrase created by the organization using it. This AES/Rigndael encryption method is used by the United States government and is approved by the National Security Agency (NSA) for top-secret information.

PVM supports batch editing, sharing entries between multiple users, file attachments, and templates. It can also integrate with Firefox, Chrome, and Internet Explorer browsers by installing an extension.

New features in PVM 4.2 include:

• Support for Google Authenticator;
• Enhanced secure note usage and presentation;
• Improved application stability in offline mode and after hibernation; and
• Simplified user interface.

According to David Hervieux, CEO and founder of Devolutions, many of the new features are the result of suggestions from the product's community of IT pros. "In fact, the very existence of PVM came as a result of users telling us that they wanted a standalone, secure enterprise-wide password management solution that would be easy-to-use, especially for non-technical users, said Hervieux in a prepared statement.
