Intel Intros Android-Based Education Tablets

Intel has launched two new Android-based tablets designed for education. The 7- and 10-inch multi-touch display tablets both feature Intel Atom processors and Google's Android operating system, as well as the Intel Education Software suite.

According to the company, Intel designed the tablets to support interactive and collaborative learning. The Intel Education Software suite includes an e-reader application, as well as tools for science exploration, data analysis, and painting. The management software is designed to help teachers and administrators protect students and manage technology.

Key features of the 10-inch Intel Education tablet include:

  • Dual-core Intel Atom processor Z2460;
  • Android 4.0 operating system;
  • More than 6.5 hours of battery life;
  • Integrated audio, speaker, and microphone; and
  • Front- and rear-facing cameras.

Key features of the 7-inch Intel Education tablet include:

  • Intel Atom processor Z2420;
  • Android 4.1 operating system;
  • Nearly 8 hours of battery life;
  • Integrated audio, speaker, and microphone; and
  • Front- and rear-facing cameras.

Components of the Intel Education Software suite include:

  • Intel Education Lab Camera by Intellisense for collecting, organizing, and visual data;
  • Intel Education Media Camera by Intellisense for taking pictures and video, and doing basic media editing;
  • MyScript Notes Mobile for handwriting notes and organizing them;
  • MyScript Stylus Mobile for converting handwriting to text in any application that accepts text input;
  • ArtRage painting and drawing software;
  • SparkVue for analyzing and reporting on information gathered through the tablet's built-in and add-on sensors;
  • Classroom management software;
  • FoxIt Mobile PDF;
  • Intel Education Resources, including digital learning objects from skoool, math and science videos from Khan Academy, English language learning resources from the British Council, and digital literacy resources from Intel Education;
  • Kno Textbooks;
  • McAfee Mobile Security; and
  • Intel Education Theft Deterrent for asset management.
