Pearson Unveils EQUELLA 6.2 Digital Repository

Pearson has unveiled the latest version of its digital repository, Equella 6.2, which will be released soon.

The Equella digital repository enables educational institutions to manage and share digital content. Two key features of Equella 6.2 are improved support for Question and Test Interoperability (QTI) and Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI). QTI and LTI are both e-learning standards produced by the IMS Global Learning Consortium.

According to Pearson, Equella 6.2 offers QTI assessment support, which enables educational institutions to manage and share assessments in Equella, deliver them through a variety of learning management systems (LMS), and record student progress in the LMS Gradebook. Also, with version 6.2, Equella is certified as both LTI consumer and provider compliant and enables educational institutions to configure LTI tools, execute an LTI launch from inside Equella and an associated LMS and link external LTI tools as Equella resources so they can be launched from within Equella or an associated LMS.

Key features of Equella 6.2 include:
  • QTI assessment functionality for managing and sharing assessments;
  • Improved external integrations support for more external tools, including LMSes, e-portfolio systems, and content authoring tools through LTI integration;
  • Enhanced search capabilities;
  • Support for Content Delivery Network (CDN) for the global distribution of localized content to improve network access speeds; and
  • Improved clustering stability and scalability for large installations.

In other Pearson news, the company has announced a partnership with educational video collections provider, Big Think. Pearson will offer educators at higher education institutions licenses to Big Think's library of 15,000 video clips, which teach interpersonal skills and other core competencies for business leaders. Topics include innovation, leadership and marketing, and methods for improving attention spans, memory, motivation, and willpower. Pearson customers will also be able to create a customized solution, which can be integrated into any LMS.
