Vernier Partners with KidWind on Solar and Wind Classroom Science Kits

Vernier Software & Technology and KidWind have teamed up to offer enhanced classroom science kits focused on wind and solar power.

As part of the deal, Vernier will become the sole distributor of KidWind's educational science kits. Vernier is a maker of scientific equipment designed for K-12 schools, including a wide range of sensors and probes. With the partnership, Vernier will now package its sensors with KidWind's classroom science kits.

With Vernier now the exclusive manufacturer and distributor of KidWind's kits, KidWind will focus on developing new kits, new curriculum for classroom instruction and professional development resources for teachers. The company will also continue to administer the KidWind Challenge, an annual science competition for students.

"For more than a decade, KidWind has been at the forefront of teaching students about renewable energy science through their engaging, hands-on offerings," said David Vernier, cofounder of Vernier and a former physics teacher, in a prepared statement. "This partnership allows us to provide educators with a comprehensive solution for renewable energy data collection. Later this year, educators can expect us to further integrate the use of our sensors and curriculum with KidWind's renewable energy kits."

"KidWind is thrilled to be turning over our manufacturing and distribution to such a well-respected company in education, and we see this as a great beginning to a long relationship," said Michael Arquin, founder and director of KidWind, also in a prepared statement. "With the Vernier partnership, our staff will focus on our core strengths, including the KidWind Challenge, which we are turning into a national event this year, professional development for teachers and the creation of new renewable energy kits and curricula."
