OpenEd Initiates Subscription Plan for Some Common Core Resources
OpenEd,
which has offered Common Core-aligned resources to
teachers for free for the last two years, will now also offer a Premium
Content
package for a monthly charge of $9.95.
Founded in 2012 with the goal of providing resources
that
could help teachers meet Common Core State Standards, OpenEd representatives
said they
have literally millions of lesson plans, assessments, videos and games.
"The resources on OpenEd have been free, and we are
committed
to keeping the vast majority of our catalog that way," said OpenEd CEO
and
Co-founder Adam Blum. "However, major education companies have valuable
resources available that typically can only be acquired by schools or
districts. By partnering with them, we are able to put additional
high-quality
content in teachers' hands."
Among the resources and tools that will be available
with the
Premium Content subscription are the Pearson
Formative Assessment Item Bank and
materials created by Houghton
Mifflin. OpenEd also has a gamified Common Core app for students called Common Core Quest, which allows students to
earn badges for math and language arts skills and recommends resources
to
address learning gaps.
Open Ed will offer a free one-month trial to
individual
teachers who, Blum pointed out, do not have the same access to materials
as
schools and districts do.
