STI Offers Free Teacher Version of Learning Earnings Incentive Program

STI, a provider of education data management solutions for K-12, has launched a free teacher version of its online student achievement platform, Learning Earnings.

Learning Earnings is a Web application that uses a virtual points system and an online school store to provide incentives for students. "According to the Digital Learning Alliance, an incentives-based reward approach can encourage positive student behaviors and allow teachers to track them, helping to curb negative behaviors in the classroom," stated a news release from STI.

Teachers can set goals for individual students or a whole class. When students achieve goals such as completing and turning in an assignment, improving test scores or achieving perfect attendance, they earn credits. Students can save their credits in a virtual bank account or spend them at the school store, where they can purchase rewards such as hall passes, free time or lunch with the teacher, or even tangible rewards such as school supplies, snacks, clothes, music, game and movie passes.

Learning Earnings includes a repository of 800 grade level-specific, no-cost rewards, and teachers can also create their own rewards. "The Learning Earnings platform automates many of the manual processes educators face when implementing incentive and positive reinforcement programs in the classroom," said Derek Dunaway, chief executive officer of STI, in a prepared statement. "We are excited to offer this free tool to help educators eliminate classroom disruption and maximize instruction."
