FileMaker Pro 9 Advanced & Server Editions Launched
FileMaker has released four new versions of FileMaker Pro, a database widely used in education. The new FileMaker Pro 9 family, which launched July 10, includes FileMaker Pro 9, FileMaker Pro 9 Advanced, FileMaker Server 9, and FileMaker Server 9 Advanced.For developers and users, FileMaker Pro 9 and Pro 9 Advanced includes a number of new functionality and ease of use features, including:
- The ability to connect to live MySQL, MS SQL, and Oracle SQL data sources;
- Various ease of use enhancements, including a new Quick Start screen;
- Conditional formatting to highlight data based on user-defined parameters;
- E-mail links for providing other users with access to databases;
- New PHP features to allow information to be published to external websites and Web-based front ends;
- Append to PDF for appending multiple reports to a single file;
- New scripting tools, including script copy and paste;
- Enhanced Web viewer and tab control options;
- New tools to help set how objects are resized when a window resizes;
- Multiple levels of undo and redo; and
- Field-level spell checking.
- A completely redesigned administration console, accessible from any computer on the network;
- Backup schedule assistant for automatic database backup;
- A deployment overview graph; and
- Support for server-side scripting.
