The Calcasieu Parish School System (CPSS) in Lake Charles, LA has been named the recipient of the 2007 Sylvia Charp District Award. The award is presented annually by T.H.E. Journal and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) in honor of T.H.E. Journal's late founding editor-in-chief, Sylvia Charp.

Trillion Unwires 31 Minnesota Districts
Trillion has completed construction of a high-speed wireless network serving 31 school districts in Southwestern Minnesota for the Southwest/West Central Service Cooperatives (SW/WC). The deployment impacts more than 17,000 students, educators and administrators in Minnesota.

Nebraska Inks $15 Million Deal to Connect Rural Students
The state of Nebraska signed a five-year, $15 million deal with Denver, CO-based data and voice carrier Qwest Communications International Inc. to provide Internet protocol (IP) connectivity to thousands of rural students in northwest Nebraska. The services will give students access to distance learning and online classrooms.

Orange County Public Schools Inks Network Deal with ENA
Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) in Florida has signed a contract with Education Networks of America (ENA) to provide broadband access to the district's school. The three-year deal, which includes two one-year renewal options, calls for ENA to provide a managed high-speed network throughout the district and to build in scalability for future expansion.

Blackboard Connects Faculty and Students with Scholar
Blackboard has launched a new, free service for users of its CMS technologies: Scholar, a "social bookmarking" service designed to connect faculty and students across institutions. Scholar is the first product released from the Blackboard Beyond Initiative, which focuses on centrally hosted Web services.

TEA To Deploy Texas Records Exchange System
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has awarded a three-year contract to the National Transcript Center (NTC), a division of ESP Solutions Group, to develop and deploy "TREx," also known as the Texas Records Exchange System. Edvance Research Inc. (ERI) has been subcontracted to direct statewide training and customer support for the system.
