Educational Network Service (ENS) is the first new service offered under Advantage Alabama, the blueprint designed by local telephone companies to bring state residents into theInformation Age.Through ENS, schools, colleges and public libraries can subscribe to dedicated telephone lines at greatly reduced prices, allowing them to access online services and databases, andtransport video, voice and data at high speeds on a point-to-point basis.Among the anticipated applications are distance learning and teacher training. "The new boundaries of the classroom will be unlimited by geography," noted Neal Travis, president ofBellSouth in Alabama.Also available from BellSouth is Classroom Communication Service, which lowers the cost of a telephone line in classrooms to $10.44 each month with a usage allowance.
