Texas District Installs Networked Learning Sys.
As part of an intensive drop-out recovery program, the Austin Independent School District (AISD) has installed NovaNET, a computer-based learning system, in ten high schools and four other sites. Every location has a computer lab equipped with 16 terminals, connected via a fiber optic network. Each lab can accommodate about 96 students per week in self-paced instruction. Since January, a pilot NovaNET lab has been in operation at AISD's Robbins High School, where administrators reported positive results. The system offers an online library with 10,000+ hours of interactive curricula, plus bulletin boards, e-mail and student records. University Communications, Tucson, AZ, (800) 937-6682.
