Award Helps School Acquire Furniture

MIPS Technologies, the microprocessor subsidiary of Silicon Graphics, selected the John J. Pershing Intermediate School (PS 220) in Brooklyn, N.Y., as the winner of its Chips for Schools contest.

PS 220 serves students in grades 6-8 from diverse backgrounds, including a large number of recent immigrants with limited English proficiency. The award will be used to supply classroom furniture, including desks, chairs and bookshelves.

MIPS donated $55,000 to the school, $1 for every processor it sold last year. The firm intends to continue the award program this year.
