New MacMidrange MacClient software allows Macintoshes to access the features and processing power of an AS/400 in the same manner as an IBM PC but with the Mac’s look and feel. From an agreement between Andrew Corp. and IBM to develop products that integrate Mac clients into AS/400 networks, the software provides users with a direct TCP/IP connection to an IBM AS/400 without a separate gateway. Other features and benefits include ODBC compliance, enabling the use of applications like Omnis 7 and BrioQuery; the ability to send commands to the AS/400 remotely; 5250 terminal and printer emulation, plus 3812 printer emulation, which allows the AS/400 to print to any Apple printer; and seamless file transfer via drag and drop on the Mac. Use of MacMidrange MacClient is aided by an intuitive GUI. Andrew Corp., Orland Park, IL, (800) 328-2696, www.andrew.com.
