New Calif. University Selects Sony Products

Located on land previously occupied by the Fort Ord military base, California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) has pledged to create a campus that thoroughly prepares students for the multimedia and telecommunications careers of the 21st century.

Already, CSUMB has selected audio and video production equipment from Sony Electronics for two state-of-the-art learning facilities. Their Teledramatic Arts and Technology Institute will house a Sony Select System 3000, which includes a BVE-9100 edit controller, DVS-2000C digital video switcher, DME-3000 digital effects, DMX-E3000 digital audio mixer, PCM-7030 digital audio recorder, high-res broadcast monitors and a Digital Betacam recorder/player.

Students will use the equipment for hands-on training in TV and video production, multimedia post-production, network management, digital-image manipulation, film production, advanced TV production and broadcast, and other projects and classes.

Another facility, the Media Learning Complex acquired a Sony Select System 500 with Betacam SP, Hi8 and VHS capabilities. In addition, CSUMB has purchased other Sony Betacam, Betacam SP and consumer-level digital camcorders, plus various recorders, monitors and microphones for use in classrooms.
