Let Students Guide the Economy

OIKonomos is a government simulation that lets social studies students "take the political hot seat" and run the countryís economy. With the help of their trusted advisors, students determine when to raise taxes, where to make cuts, and maintain the budget. Pollsters indicate popularity levels, and cabinet members try to keep these "junior government ministers" in check.

The softwareís intuitive and simple interface makes it easy for students to get involved and not spend a lot of time learning a complicated system, and extensive online help saves time when users have questions. OIKonomos includes lesson plans for teachers. Brighter Paths, St. Clair Shores, MI, (800) 333-7367, www.brighterpaths.com.
