Software Targets Elementary School Readers
Advantage Learning Systems, Inc. and McGraw-Hill Companies have joined together to improve reading in elementary schools. Advantage Learning's Accelerated Reader software, coupled with McGraw-Hill Reading, will provide teachers and students with hundreds of interactive computer quizzes by which a student's progress can be measured.
The reading program allows teachers to simultaneously teach three different levels of readers. Additionally, McGraw-Hill reading takes into account research developments in phonics and the story-telling approach of whole language.
Accelerated Reader offers quizzes on over 23,000 fiction and non-fiction books, expects to offer more than 30,000 by the end of 1999, and supplies teachers with data on how to improve reading performance in the classroom.
