Software Helps Algebra Students

Carnegie Learning has united students, teachers and software to develop Cognitive Tutor Algebra I, an integrated print and software curriculum that has been shown to increase test scores. The program begins by focusing on the multiple representation of linear function. Once these concepts are mastered, the program introduces quadratics. The software is built around personalized learning models, and its sophisticated, intelligent tutoring system allows for a student to use multiple problem-solving strategies.

The Cognitive Tutor software is also available to suit Algebra II and Geometry curricula. The programs take a "learning by doing" approach to problem solving, and are supported by 15 years of research. Carnegie Learning, Denver, CO, (412) 683-MATH, www.carnegielearning.com.
