Assessment in a Changing World
The 1999 annual report from Educational Testing Service examines ways in which school assessment is evolving at the dawn of a new century, and suggests ways to improve assessments.
The report states that an increasingly complicated and diverse society needs assessments that:
· measure a wide range of knowledge and skills,
· measure more complex learning behavior,
· are demonstrably fair, based on just and understandable standards,
· are embedded in the whole learning process, giving feedback for instruction,
· reflect a global economy and society, and
· respond to students and educators technological needs by offering services such as automatic scoring, online registration, and widely available testing times.
The report is offered in both print and online versions. The online version at www.ets.org/etsar contains links to approximately 200 other useful Web sites, as well as multimedia information about ETS and its current projects. Educational Testing Service, Princeton, NJ, (609) 734-1615, www.ets.org.
