Event Encourages Technology Education

The second annual TechiesDay, sponsored by techies.com and CNET Networks, is a nationwide initiative to address the increasing demand for technology professionals in the United States. Scheduled to take place on October 3, TechiesDay is supported by government, industry and education leaders committed to building a skilled workforce that will be prepared to meet the challenges of a technology-driven future.

The program focuses on two key areas: fostering relationships between schools, technology professionals and corporations in their communities; and recognizing students for their outstanding achievements in technology. The day will include the announcement of Techie Team 2000, winners of an annual competition that recognizes tech professionals for their contributions to advancing technology education. The Techies of Tomorrow competition for grades 9-12 will also be announced, with winners to be honored in the spring of 2001.

The TechiesDay Web site (www.techiesday.org) will be the communications hub for TechiesDay, with information about the events, competitions and sponsors, as well as downloadable classroom activity kits and interactive elements that facilitate communication between business and technology professionals, teachers, students and their parents.
