Network Instruments has releasedversion 7.0 of its Observer, Expert Observer and Observer Suitenetwork troubleshooting and protocol analysis software tools. Observer is a Windows-based, real-time networkmonitor and LAN troubleshooting tool. The program offers event notification anda complete trending and baselining collection system to view historical datacollected for several years

In addition to increased efficiency indata handling, highlights of version 7.0’s enhanced features include new postcapture statistics (including Summary, Protocols, Top Talkers, Matrix andInternet Usage) and improved packet capture timing resolution — from 1millisecond on Windows 95 or 98 to 1 microsecond on NT/2000. Expert Observercontains all of these new features, as well as What-If Live Modeling, whichmeasures actual client/server conversations and peer-to-peer conversations,then plots possible response times, utilization, and packet flow scenarios. Italso contains VolP Expert, which reports and analyzes problems with VolP/H.323 connections, and ExpertSummary, which displays error events in a single, concise display.
