Partnership Provides Content for Classrooms

MarcoPolo, a partnership style='letter-spacing:15.0pt'>between the WorldCom Foundation and educational organizations, is aninitiative that provides standards-based, commercial-free Internet content forthe K-12 classroom. MarcoPolo also offers free, onsite professional developmentto teacher trainers nationwide. Built on a train-the-trainer model, the programis designed to help teachers effectively integrate Internet content into theK-12 curriculum. Currently, the Foundation has agreements to provide this freetraining to educators in 22 states.

The MarcoPolo Web site contains panel-reviewed links to topWeb sites, a search engine, and supplemental resources in the areas ofeconomics, geography, mathematics, science, the arts and the humanities.Instructors will find more than 500 lessons with the MarcoPolo consortium, andnew lessons are added regularly. Other features of the program include theability to track and measure results, and the opportunity for users toparticipate in online forums, bulletin boards, “talk to us” pages andevaluations.
