Students Receive Hands-on Computer Skills Training

Learning.com announces the launch of the EasyTech Instructional System, an online learning system designed to deliver computer skills instruction to students in grades K-5. EasyTech addresses the need for high-quality, authentic technology training for students. Using a fully scoped and sequenced curriculum for tech literacy as a foundation, Learning.com is developing a series of tutorials, each 10 to 20 minutes in length, that are delivered via the Internet directly to the classroom. EasyTech supports national and state technology standards, and reinforces traditional curricula.

Currently comprised of more than 40 self-paced lessons, the system addresses topics such as basic computer skills, word processor skills, spreadsheet and database skills, and the use of e-mail and Internet browsers. A computer skills curriculum for students in grades 6 to 12 and for pre-service and in-service teachers will be released later in 2001. The curriculum system is delivered to subscribing schools through a Web interface. Teachers use a simple, Web-based management console to assign lessons. A revision for the console will be available this summer and promises to provide teachers with the ability to track individual student progress for grading.
