Computers Come Pre-Wired For Internet

America Online and Dell have announced a marketing agreement under which Dell will provide the AOL@SCHOOL service pre-loaded on all computers that it ships to K-12 schools in the United States. AOL@SCHOOL is an online learning tool designed to help schools make good use of the Web's vast educational resources. The service provides a series of age-appropriate learning portals with easy-to-follow connections to online content that has been selected by educational experts. It also provides students with communications features, such as e-mail and instant messaging, at the discretion of school officials. An education-focused search engine helps students research, while AOL's safety controls protect students from inappropriate Internet content. Special portals exist for teachers and administrators, and a State Focus feature provides locally oriented information selected by state education officials.
