Interactive Music Education Now Available Online

From Tritone Corp. comes the Tritone Music Series, an online music education curriculum. The initial product introduction, Beginner Level 1, is intended for children in grades 3 to 7. A graphical user interface creates an interactive and motivating online learning environment. The program's customizable content allows schools or home educators to choose the services they need, and comes with an online performance evaluation feature, plus an e-Administrator service to monitor and organize learning activities.

The only hardware components that are required are a terminal connection to the Internet, a musical keyboard, a MIDI interface and cables. The course methodology simulates a teaching environment, with lessons about melody, rhythm, harmony, improvisation, history, composition, sight-reading and ear training. A specialized sequencer called Javatrax can evaluate a student's musical performance against the teacher's and give a graphical display of timing, pitch and expression to show the student where improvement may be needed. A Web-based teacher resource center offers instruction in the use of the program and access to technical support staff. Tritone Corp., Fredericton, N.B., (604) 273-5540, www.tritonemusic.com.
