Service Promotes More Powerful School Libraries

Enabling librarians to build more powerful school libraries that better meet the reading needs of studen's, Scholastic, Inc. has launched a new easy-to-use service called MyLibrary. The service provides analysis of school libraries for the purchase of books and software for Scholastic Reading Counts!, the widely used reading motivation and management system for grades K-12, which engages and encourages students to read more books. MyLibrary gives Scholastic Reading Counts! users the ability to electronically match their school library's automated records with the Scholastic Reading Counts! database of files. The program serves as an easy tool for librarians to analyze their existing book collections so they can make informed decisions when selecting additional literature and other resources to add to their school and classroom libraries.

In addition, the new service cross-references existing libraries of books so that purchasing can more effectively target specific student needs.

MyLibrary provides reports that help librarians organize book and quiz information for Scholastic Reading Counts!. Users of the service can sort data by title, author, point value and three different indicators of reading level: grade equivalents, Lexile measures and Guided Reading Levels. By making multiple sorts, librarians can focus on exactly what type of books and quiz collections they need, and how to use Scholastic Reading Counts! to support their library more effectively. Librarians can also print MyLibrary reports to share with teachers, and easily determine what books and quizzes are needed to support other classroom reading programs and curriculum units.
