Online Science Gallery Features World Wonders

The Franklin Institute of Science Museum and the Science Museum, London, have partnered to create "Pieces of Science," an online museum at www.fi.edu/pieces that features scientific wonders such as the Daguerreotype camera, the history of bicycles and the discovery of penicillin. The site enables teachers to invigorate science learning lessons and advance their online skills and promotes science learning in tomorrow's workforce with the advent of cutting-edge tools. It encourages teachers and museums to work together and present scientific objects in new and innovative ways.

Educators from both sides of the Atlantic selected museum objects and proceeded to learn about their piece, its history and its significance. The educators then developed exciting classroom activities and teacher resources based on their encounters with the real objects. Resources have been structured in line with U.S. National Science Education Standards. In addition, links to other pertinent Web sites that further investigate the topic or object under discussion are also included on the site.
