Religious Texts Available in Electronic Database
Ad Fontes and Alexander Street Press have launched The Digital Library of Classic Protestant Texts (CPT), an electronic database containing complete works and other writings by Protestant figures throughout history. In all, the collection contains more than 1,500 complete Christian texts from the 16th and 17th centuries.
Scholars from universities across Europe and the United States collaborated on the collection, which contains searchable, full-text writings and facsimiles of 325 thinkers, including the complete works of key figures such as Martin Luther, John Calvin, Ulrich Zwingli and William Perkins. The collection features indexing through XML coding, and lets users display re-keyed text and facsimile versions side-by-side, scrolling in synchrony. Indexing is done according to standard theological and social/political thesaurus terms.
The CPT is available through the one-time purchase of perpetual rights or by an annual subscription, scaled to library budgets. Significant discounts are available to consortia and early buyers. Ad Fontes, Alexandria, VA, (800) 889-5937, www.ad-fontes.com.
