FETC 2004 Expands Focus to Reach a More Diverse Group of Educators

With a special emphasis on higher education, this year's Florida Educational Technology Conference, taking place Jan. 22-24 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., promises to outdo itself. FETC 2004 will offer more than 200 concurrent hour-long sessions that feature educators sharing best practices of technology in the classroom. Special this year, FETC has teamed with the Florida Distance Learning Consortium and the Florida PT3 Consortium (Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to Use Technology) to present FETC*PS, a series of featured speakers, workshops and focus sessions specifically designed for those in higher education. All registered FETC attendees can participate in FETC*PS, which includes presentations and sessions with national and state experts who will promote the theoretical knowledge, conceptual research and professional practice related to the effective use of technology for the on-campus and distance learner.

FETC attendees can take a tour of Oc'ee Middle School, the Florida State Demonstration School, as well as visit the Florida Diagnostic and Learning Resource Systems' on-site Assistive Technology Hands-On Lab, which features the latest in assistive technology, software and peripherals. There's also a First Timers' Session to help orientate new guests to the conference so they can make the most of their experience at FETC. With any free time left, attendees can walk the exhibit hall floor to learn about the latest hardware and software products being offered from more than 500 companies.

The keynote speaker at this year's FETC is Linda Ellerbee, a TV producer, best-selling author and syndicated columnist whose books have been used in more than 100 colleges and universities nationwide. Other featured speakers include John Bailey of the U.S. Education Department and Willard Daggett of the International Center for Leadership in Education.
