SOLVING COMMUNITY ISSUES

The Christopher Columbus Fellowship Foundation is accepting entries for its 10th annual Christopher Columbus Awards program until Feb. 13, 2006. The contest challenges teams of up to four students in grades 6-8, and one mentor, to identify a community issue and use the scientific process to come up with an innovative solution. The eight teams chosen for the final leg of the competition will each win a $200 grant (which will be used to develop their ideas further), plus an all-expense paid trip to participate in Championship Week, where they will explore the science and technology behind Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL. DuringChampionship Week, each member of the two gold-medal-winning teams willreceive a $2,000 savings bond, and oneteam will win the $25,000 ColumbusFoundation Community Grant to helpbring its idea to life.
