Videoconferencing Program Provides Free Access to Virtual Field Trips

The Tandberg Connections Program, which provides free access to virtual field trips to schools that use Tandberg videoconferencing, has announced its virtual field trip schedule for 2006. Virtual field trips help schools overcome lack of resources and funding or simple geographic barriers to provide eye-opening, interactive lessons that greatly enhance existing curriculum and bring students what are potentially once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Philadelphia Education Fund Receives Support from Staples Foundation for Learning

The Philadelphia Education Fund, an independent nonprofit organization working to improve the quality of public education for underserved youth in the Philadelphia region, has received a $10,000 grant from Staples Foundation for Learning. This grant will support the College Access program, which provides college awareness and readiness services to thousands of Philadelphia students each year. The College Access Program provides direct, school-based services to nearly 3,000 low-income youth from some of the most financially disadvantaged sections of the city. The program operates in 21 middle and high schools where College Access coordinators provide comprehensive college readiness services, including college and career awareness workshops, individual advising, motivational speakers, and financial aid and scholarship assistance. South Carolina Selects GeoLearning’s LMS Suite for Five-Year eLearning Contract

South Carolina has selected the GeoMaestro Learning Management Suite (LMS) from GeoLearning Inc. to deliver and manage training for 100,000 users across state agencies, the state’s education system, and private citizens. The state will implement the GeoLearning solution to support a statewide training initiative targeting leadership development, first responder preparedness, and several unique government learning programs. The first agencies to use the system include the Department of Social Security, the Budget Control Board, and the Department of Health & Environmental Control. Hawaiian School Secures Grant for High-Tech Enrichment, Credit Recovery

Starting this school year, the Maui Waena Intermediate School in Kahului, HI, will utilize the award-winning NovaNET curriculum program to help students with low test scores and those who speak English as a second language. The NovaNET system from Pearson Digital Learning is an online, standards-based system that delivers comprehensive, interactive, and engaging curriculum, testing, assessment, student management, and record-keeping, which is designed specifically for middle and high school learners. Used by several high schools and adult learning centers across the islands, NovaNET will be used this school year in Maui Waena’s new after-school program and in its six-week summer program in 2007.
