Hatboro-Horsham Implements IP Phone System

2/7/2007—Hatboro-Horsham School District in Pennsylvania has implemented a new IP-based phone system throughout the district. The new system, from Siemens Communications, replaces five separate systems in 11 locations throughout the district.

"Our phone system was old, outdated and breaking down, and we were beginning to put a tremendous amount of financial and human resources into repairing and maintaining it," said Curtis Griffin, Hatboro-Horsham's assistant superintendent for secondary education, in a prepared statement. "In addition to being more reliable, the new system will connect all district buildings through our fiber optic network and, for the first time, allow calls to be transferred from one school to another."

The district's new system uses the Siemens HiPath 3000 Real-Time IP Communication System, which is compatible with the Cisco infrastructure already installed throughout the district. It cost Hatboro-Horsham $394,000 to install the system.

"Siemens' core business is voice communications, and that's why we chose them over our legacy providers," Griffin said. "Siemens offered a full array of services, from design through implementation and support."

Hatboro-Horsham School District includes five elementary schools, one middle school and one high school serving 5,600 students.
