Marion County Public Schools in Ocala, FL has selected Chancery SMS, a program to manage school information from Pearson School Systems. Chancery SMS is designed to manage student and educator data online for the entire district.

"A lot of change is taking shape in Florida's public schools, and the push to modernize student information systems is an important one," said Diana Greene, deputy superintendent of Marion County Public Schools. "MCPS selected Chancery SMS because it will provide us with a highly customized and efficient solution that will meet complex Florida state reporting requirements and enhance the communication structure of the entire district, through its convenient Web interface."

Student's attendance and grades will be automatically processed by the software. According to Pearson, the program will help the district meet state and federal reporting and accountability standards.

A data analysis tool used with Chancery SMS is designed for educators to perform various functions, including:

  • Report and analyze performance data;
  • Identify student's strengths and weaknesses;
  • Compare progress against government standards; and
  • Assess instructional programs effectiveness.

Marion County District has 53 schools with more than 42,000 students enrolled for the 2007-2008 school year.
