Magnet School Tests Multimedia Educational Program

Fort Pierce Magnet School of the Arts in St. Lucie, FL has been chosen to test StageNotes Live, a multimedia educational program created by Camp Broadway, an education company, and Panasonic. Students and teachers in grades 3 through 8 will take part in the five-day program that uses elements from the Broadway musical The Lion King to teach about African society.

"These days kids are more accustomed to seeing and much more apt to learn through visualization," said David Washington, principal at Fort Pierce. "Thanks to Panasonic technology and Camp Broadway's creative curriculum, our entire school has been converted into The Lion King. In the past it would have taken two [to] three weeks to cover the core curriculum that this program is enabling us to cover in just a few days."

The program is designed to use sets, costumes, props, and dance movements from the musical to teach about African culture and folklore. According to Panasonic, lessons will be interactive, and students will be encouraged to use what they learn from the course to create their own stories and props.

According to Panasonic, the program was designed to aid in teaching subjects such as social studies and language arts. A curriculum guide and downloadable video has been provided for teachers participating in the program.

Fort Pierce Magnet School of the Arts, located in Fort Pierce, FL, has 360 students currently enrolled.
