Channel One Network And i-SAFE Partner for Online Safety Awareness
##AUTHORSPLIT##<--->
Teen news and content provider Channel One has partnered with electronic safety firm i-SAFE in an effort to enhance and increase electronic safety awareness among teens. The organizations have signed a memorandum of understanding, committing to work together to provide video programming and curriculum-based tools to students through the Channel One News broadcast and the i-SAFE and Channel One Web sites.
With more than 6 million students in junior high and high school nationwide tuning in to the Channel One News network, and more than 5 million students having already received i-SAFE's lessons, the organizations said they expect to see tremendous benefit from the additional exposure to safety topics in an ever-changing electronic landscape.
"When you consider that nearly 100% of American teens have access to the Internet you get a sense of just how critical it is to provide information and tools that preserve the organic spirit of the web while at the same time encouraging responsible use of the medium," said Kent Haehl, CEO of Channel One Network, in a statement released June 2. "We have an opportunity with i-SAFE to present teens with a better understanding of the online world and their place in it, and to sustain a positive culture. There is virtually no limit to the creativity and critical thinking inspired by the Internet and the technologies that have developed alongside it. In fact, we happen to think that from video creation to citizen journalism, the online platform supports many of the skills that will prepare young people for the 21st century. Channel One News is committed to playing a part in that preparation."
i-SAFE's curriculum will provide resources to the Channel One News daily broadcast as it covers a wide range of electronic safety topics. Additional information and resources will be provided on the companies' Web sites, with both organizations anticipating promotional collaboration that will include contests and public service announcements, among other initiatives.
i-SAFE also reported that it intends to utilize its online professional development program, i-LEARN Online, to train teachers across the Channel One News network.
