Virginia, Texas Schools Deploy Firewall Solutions

Palo Alto Networks announced two large-scale deployments of its PA-4000 series firewall. The city of Staunton, VA (including its schools) and Garland Independent School District in Texas have implemented the company's firewall solution to protect their network infrastructure from a variety of security issues, including inappropriate content, malware, viruses, and unwanted applications, to name a few.
The city of Staunton will use the PA-4000 series firewall to help secure Internet applications running throughout their information infrastructure, including municipal offices, public safety units, and the city's school system. With more than 20 public schools, Staunton representatives said the city intends to gain greater control and visibility of their network activity, improving both performance, as well as regulatory compliance.
In other Palo Alto news, the company said Wednesday that Garland ISD--one of the largest districts in Texas, with more than 57,000 students--will use the PA-4000 series firewall to isolate students and district employees from a range of inappropriate and "unsafe" content on the Web.
According to Garland ISD, a driving force in their decision to use Palo Alto's solution was the ability to monitor and control application use district-wide; a feature not available in their legacy system.
