WildFireWeb Offers Free Web Sites to Every K-12 School
WildFireWeb is offering WebSchoolPro Web sites to all public and private K-12 schools in the United States for free. The offering comes after successfully piloting the platform in 15 California districts from 2006 to 2008.

Malware Dramatically Increasing; Almost All Users Have Clicked on Malicious Links
Web security services firm ScanSafe reported that the total number of Web-based malware blocks has increased by 87 percent in July 2008 compared to the previous month. Specifically, the first two weeks in July have shown an extraordinarily high volume of malware blocks. ScanSafe sells online security services, which scan Web requests from its customers and blocks malicious content.

Texas District Deploys Internet Management, Monitoring
Llano Independent School District in Texas has signed on with security provider Cymphonix to deploy appliance-based network filtering and management district-wide.

Alabama District Adopts Web-based Textbook Management
Baldwin County Public Schools in Alabama is moving its textbook management to the Web. The switch is designed to address the triple-digit growth forecast for the district over the next 10 years and comes on the heels of a $270 million capital improvement project.

Xap Transcript eXchange Gets SIF 2 Certification
Xap announced recently it has received SIF 2 certification for its Xap Transcript eXchange 2.0 from the Schools Interoperability Framework Association (SIFA). The new status is effective as of now and makes the platform among the first of its kind to receive the certification, according to Xap.

Nevada Virtual Academy Expands To Serve Grades K-9
Nevada Virtual Academy (NVVA) has announced the expansion of its tuition-free, online public school to include grades K through 9. Prior to state approval, NVVA was limited to grades 4 through 8.
