Mobile County Public Schools Looks To Boost AYP with Notification System

##AUTHORSPLIT##<--->

The Mobile County Public School System is getting ready to implement a district-wide parent notification system that will help reach the families of more than 63,000 students at 98 schools throughout the county. The district plans to use the system, SchoolMessenger, to increase annual yearly progress (AYP) funding, streamline emergency contact, and enhance general home-school communication.

The deployment is aimed at helping the district boost AYP in three key areas: enrollment, attendance, and academic achievement. By keeping in close contact with parents of students showing need in those areas, the district intends to enhance its overall numbers, increasing access to federal funding.

"With a slowdown in the economy, school systems are under increased pressure this year to maximize the budget allocations possible through AYP," said Roy Nichols, MCPSS superintendent, in a prepared statement. "We believe our SchoolMessenger notification system will help families get more involved in their child's education throughout the year, and can have a positive impact on funding as well. It's a win-win for the school system, our schools, and the community-at-large."

The system also provides the district emergency calling capabilities, with the potential to send thousands of messages in just minutes to reach parents in the event of both minor and major occurrences. Other uses for the system include general announcements, event reminders, and notification of statewide testing schedules.
