Projecting the Growth of Internet Bandwidth

In consecutive America's Digital Schools surveys, tech directors predicted increases in the amount of bandwidth schools will need in future years. ADS' research team foresees an even greater rise.

  • TECH DIRECTORS BELIEVE BANDWIDTH NEEDS WILL INCREASE NEARLY 2 1/2 TIMES IN THE NEXT THREE YEARS
  • ADS TEAM ANTICIPATES A NEARLY SEVENFOLD RISE IN BANDWIDTH USAGE BY 2012
  • FEDERALLY FUNDED LOWER-INCOME DISTRICTS HAVE GREATER BANDWIDTH THAN AFFLUENT DISTRICTS
  • URBAN DISTRICTS SUFFER MORE FROM LOW BANDWIDTH THAN RURAL DISTRICTS

Responses reflect weighted averages in kilobits per student, based on district enrollment of all surveyed technology directors.

BANDWIDTH NEEDS: On average, how much bandwidth does each student in your district require? How do you expect bandwidth-per-student usage to increase in the future?
