U.S. Math Scores Improve Marginally as Science Scores Stagnate

Fourth- and eighth-grade students in the United States, on the whole, have improved their math scores marginally since 1995, up about 2.12 percent for fourth-graders and 3.25 percent for eighth-graders, according to data from the 2007 Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study released this week by the National Center for Education Statistics. Science scores for these students were unchanged.

Motorola Opens $5 Million PreK-12 STEM Grant Program

The Motorola Foundation this week kicked off its Innovation Generation Grants program for 2009. The funding is aimed at supporting programs for preK-12 students designed to spur interest in science, technology, engineering, and math--including after-school programs, science and math clubs, and other initiatives.

Greendale SD Implements Web-based Formative Assessments District-wide

Greendale School District in Wisconsin is revamping its student data and testing systems with the deployment of Pearson Benchmark, a Web- based testing and reporting system designed to monitor student progress and provide analytics to help "manage and maximize student achievement."

Indiana District Rolls Out 802.11n WiFi

Danville Community School Corp. in Indiana is deploying 802.11n wireless technology across its campuses. The district signed on with Meru Networks to provide the technology for the deployment, which will begin in early 2009.

PA Charter School To Deploy 1,400 OLPC XO Laptops

Chester Community Charter School in Pennsylvania is deploying 1,400 XO laptops to students, marking the largest deployment of laptops from One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) in the United States. The initial rollout will begin this week.

Georgia Approves Fast ForWord, Reading Assistant for K-8 Instruction

The Georgia Department of Education has recently approved Scientific Learning's Fast ForWord and Reading Assistant family of programs for use in K-8 Language Arts and Reading instruction.
