Industry To Tackle Global Assessments
Intel, Microsoft, and Cisco will join forces for a research and development project aimed at improving the overall effectiveness of assessments. According to information released by Intel Tuesday, the three will collaborate in an effort at "transforming global educational assessment and improving learning outcomes."

New Mexico District Deploys Wireless WAN for eLearning Initiative
Farmington Municipal Schools of Farmington, NM has completed installation of a wireless WAN to improve its networking capabilities and performance. The district contracted with Austin, TX-based Trillion Partners to build a hybrid network consisting of its existing fiber optic cabling and Trillion's point-to-point wireless links, which aided in the district's connection of 21 sites across high desert terrain.

Texas School District To Deploy Advanced Wireless Services
Verizon Business, a division of New York-based Verizon Communications, has partnered with the Sherman Independent School District to provide its schools advanced wireless communications services such as VoIP, wireless LANs, voice mail, and an expansion of the district's Ethernet network.

Mesquite Independent School District has entered into an agreement with MRV Communications to implement the company's OptiSwitch 304 optical termination units as a part of the district's current network expansion.

NEA Academy Partners with EI for Online Professional Development Courses
The National Education Association (NEA) Academy has agreed to partner with Educational Impact to provide online professional development courses to its members. With the new program, the NEA seeks to strengthen educators' skills in the areas of language and ESL education, inclusion of students from diverse backgrounds, instructional and curriculum design, and assessment, among others.
