New Photo Site Allows for Upload by Mobile Phone

Avanquest Software has begun public testing of SendPhotos, a photo sharing Web site that allows registered users to share and exchange photos for free from their PC or mobile device. The membership comes with one gigabyte of online storage space through the duration of the beta phase.

The vendor said its site can work with 140 mobile phones, including models from T-Mobile, Apple, and BlackBerry. The SendPhotos system includes a photo client, SendPhotos Mobile, which installs on the phone to automate upload of snapshots to the SendPhotos portal for backup and continuous updating of personal photo pages. The company added that the software allows mobile subscribers to avoid data charges that can otherwise occur when uploading photos while roaming.

The SendPhotos iPhone version includes a photo editor with control of cropping, coloring, contrast, and image manipulation features such as "smudge" and text addition.

A PC utility, SendPhotos PC, handles online or offline organizing, editing, and sharing of photos and includes tools for cropping, redeye reduction, and color and contrast. Viewing options make snapshots available publicly or to a specific list of people. Those authorized to view the photos can download high-definition images in original size and instantaneously comment or "share back" their own images, contributing to one comprehensive online photo exchange or album from the same event or occasion.

SendPhotos Web is an online cache that users access for uploading, archiving, synchronization, and sharing of digital images. A drag-and-drop interface allows users to transfer stored photos to other photo sharing and social networking sites, including Picasa and MySpace.

The service is available in English, French, Spanish, Italian, and German editions at launch and provides both remote printing capabilities and the ability to embed a photo album created in SendPhotos to a Web site or blog.
