Technology-based Education for Skills Development
Learning to communicate clearly, work collaboratively, network efficiently, manage and organize information and tasks, think critically, and develop new knowledge is increasingly required across all working areas because expectations are changing and because budgets and organizational planning demand more efficiency in the workforce. So more exploration should be made as to how these kinds of skills, often referred to as "transferrable" skills, are developed, and technology can play a crucial role in this.

Florida and Texas Districts Sign Onto Twitter
School districts in Florida and Alaska have been the latest to initiate Twitter accounts to keep students, parents, and the public updated with news and information about their schools. Broward County Public Schools in Ft. Lauderdale and Anchorage School District have both joined the social networking and messaging site to post updates, called "tweets," on their Twitter home pages. Subscribers can be informed about new tweets through text messages, RSS feeds, and third-party applications.

Distance Learning K-12 School Launches Virtual Community
Laurel Springs School, an accredited private school offering K-12 distance learning, has launched a virtual community for its students and parents using Community Server from Telligent. MyLaurelSprings.com will provide an online community for those who learn from home in locations around the world. The site will enable students to communicate with fellow students, make friends, join school clubs, and create study groups. Parents will be able to interact with other parents.

Kentucky Students To Watch Live Surgery
Science class is taking on a new twist for some Kentucky high school students. Students from 20 high schools as well as community colleges will have the chance to watch a live surgery being performed at the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital via teleconferencing technology March 18.
