Schools Pilot USC-Built Math Game Platform
A new program developed by researchers in the University of Southern California is helping high school students strengthen their math skills and teaching them how to build complex computer games. GameDesk, created at USC's Viterbi School of Engineering's Integrated Media Systems Center, allows users to create math-oriented computer games with tools such as YoYoGames' GameMaker.

Texas Legislators Introduce Ed Tech Choice Bill
Legislators in the state of Texas have introduced a bill that would give local school districts choice over the technologies and instructional materials they purchase. The legislation is receiving support from industry and education advocates, including the Texas Association of School Administrators and the Texas Computer Education Association.

Norman Public Schools in Oklahoma is deploying a new Web-based student information system district-wide. According to the district, the move is designed to provide real-time communications to parents about their children's performance and to help the district evaluate assessment data.

Alexandria School District 206 in Minnesota is taking steps to guard student data. The district has signed on with security technology developer Robobak to provide a centralized tool for protecting data.

Yankton School District in South Dakota is deploying a new student information system and classroom management suite. The district signed on recently with Pearson to deploy PowerSchool Premier and PowerTeacher.
