ED Adopts Learning Point To Launch and Manage Resource Center

The United States Department of Education's Office of Innovation and Improvement has awarded a five-year contract for charter school research and technical assistance to Learning Point Associates, a non-profit education research and consulting organization. Chief among LPA's duties under the contract will be to launch and manage the National Charter School Resource Center (NCSRC), which will provide services and support related to charter school development.

LPA has appointed as project director Steven M. Ross, a recognized policy analyst in the areas of school reform and school choice. Ross will be working with representatives from each of a group of organizations that bring to the project a dedication to continued development and effective management of charter schools. In addition to LPA, input on the project will come from Editorial Projects in Education (publishers of Education Week), American Institutes for Research, SRI International, Collaborative Communications, Public Impact, and Forum One.

The functions of the NCSRC will include:

  • Coordinating and conducting research;
  • Collecting and analyzing data;
  • Developing and disseminating research-based products;
  • Providing a wide range of technical assistance;
  • Facilitating knowledge development and exchange among practitioners, administrators, and policymakers; and
  • Providing on-demand access to information through traditional and new media so that charter schools can confidently plan, implement, and maintain high-quality programs.

The overall mission of the NCSRC is to address the diverse needs of all those who have an interest in the success of a charter school, including educators, administrators, boards, policy makers, families, and communities.
