ALT Launches Open Access Repository

The Association for Learning Technology (ALT), a U.K.-based group for individuals and organizations with an interest in education technology, has announced the public availability of its open-access repository for professional and scholarly research materials related to learning technology.

Launched in September at the group's annual ALT-C conference, the repository lets users search and browse for articles, research studies, professional papers, conference presentations, links to Webinar recordings, archived post-prints from the association's professional journal ALT-J, and other related content, as well as information relating to ALT and its activities. The material is indexed both by United States Library of Congress subject divisions and by an internally created subject outline evolving according to user needs. In addition, the material is fully indexed by major Internet search engines, which allows direct access without being logged into the repository.

The repository was built using EPrints software, with the goal of conforming to the Open Access movement's OpenDOAR policy. In addition to searching and accessing currently archived materials, users will soon be able to add their own learning technology-related content thanks to a wiki-style function currently in development.
