Humble ISD To Implement Web Platform for Collaboration and Social Networking

Humble Independent School District in Texas will be implementing a service from Schoolwires to manage content on its Web site and provide social networking and collaboration tools for its community of teachers, administrators, parents, and students.

The 35,000-student district has selected Centricity, a hosted program that combines a number of features.

The application includes:

  • Course management components that allow teachers to post assignments and students to access class work online;
  • Content management that can draw from multiple district sources online--such as Web sites for schools, classes, and organizations--and compile them into a single Web site;
  • Automatic generation of e-mail and alerts to keep users updated on new content; and
  • Modules to create blogs, podcasts, forums, and surveys.

"We believe Centricity will help us successfully communicate and engage with a broader audience with fewer manpower resources and in less time," said Karen Collier, executive director of public information. "After carefully reviewing several vendor demos, there was no question that Centricity is best suited to meet our needs."
