Kansas District Expands Virtual Learning Beyond Middle School

K12 Inc. and Lawrence Public Schools launched a new virtual high school program serving Kansas students in grades 9 and 10.

Building on a partnership formed in 2004 with the creation of Lawrence Virtual School for kindergarten through eighth-grade students, the Lawrence Virtual High School offers a combination of online and hands-on lessons with state-certified teachers as well as access to extracurricular activities and outings.

As part of the Lawrence School District public school program, LVHS is tuition-free, and instructional materials, including a loaner computer system, are provided at no cost. K12, a private education services company operating virtual schools in 25 states in the United States, runs the program with coursework split into core, comprehensive, honors, and Advanced Placement categories. Not all of the K12 high school curriculum will be available to LVHS students, though specifics were not available at the time of this writing.

The Lawrence Virtual High School is currently accepting enrollment applications for the 2010-2011 school year. Kansas residents not older than 17 as of Sept. 1, 2010 are eligible to enroll.
