It's Learning LMS Adds Third-Party Application Support

Ed tech developer it's learning has added support for externally hosted extensions and an application store to its eponymous Web-based course management system. The company has also added more than 120 other new features to the system.

The extension support allows third-party applications and plugins to be added to lesson plans. Educators can download applications, create an assignment in the application, and view the results of the assignment in Grade Book.

For access to the applications and plugins, it's learning has opened an application store where software can be download for free from other educators or for a fee from third-party vendors.

Also new as part of the update is a tool that embeds Web 2.0 content into lesson plans, including discussions, assignments, messages, and tests. Specialized plugins have been added for Google Maps, YouTube, Delicious, Flickr, Meebo rooms, Slideshare, Springwidget RSS, TeacherTube, Odeo, SchoolTube, VideoJug, and SchoolTV.

All told, the new release adds about 120 new features, including Pages, a feature that allows notes to be assembled with images, RSS feeds, polls, graphs, and statistics, and Parent Dashboard, an option that allows parents to view their children's assigned tasks, completed activities, behavior reports, progress reports, and attendance records.
