Discovery Education Brings Streaming Content to iPad
Discovery Education has launched a version of its streaming service optimized for Apple iPad. The initial offering will include more than 33,000 video items.
Like its counterpart used on traditional computers, the mobile version of the resource offers both targeted keyword searches and visual subject browsing for finding specific content. It also supports HTML5 video. Additional features of the mobile version include advanced searching with filtering at deeper levels; touch screen navigation through results; and a design conducive to the tablet computer format and touch interface.
"This marriage of cutting-edge technology and dynamic content holds tremendous promise for progressive educators seeking to engage today's students in the 21st century world they inhabit," said Alberto M. Carvalho, superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools. "As Miami-Dade continues to evolve instruction beyond the textbook, this new resource will serve as a valuable classroom tool."
In the coming months, Discovery Education will add additional video content, as well as images, audio clips, PDFs, encyclopedia articles, and more from its library of more than 170,000 items, many of which are aligned to multiple state standards in various academic subjects.
